Our sweet bed partner

Since we got home from Washington Monday afternoon, we have had a bed partner all three nights - think someone missed Daddy and Carmomma?

Puss & Boots

Last Monday we bought Ben a new car after work and Allie was so good at the dealership.  His new car has a theater system so we promised her a new movie for daddy's new ride.  When Ben came home from the dealership he brought home Puss & Boots which by the way, is an adorable movie for those of you who have not seen it.

The problem with Allie is she gets absolutely obsessed with new things and wants to watch them over, and over, and over again...we've probably seen this movie 100 times now.  She memorizes scenes, knows when the characters say certain things, and can even mimic certain dance moves the characters do.

Think someone needs dance lessons next year?

Allie's new saying

So while we were in Washington for our friends Brent and Holly's wedding Ben's parents stayed with Allie. She went to school Friday and Monday...and we came home to this new saying. I wonder how many times a day Ms. Annie and Ms. Crystal say this to her? LOL

This child cracks me up

Tonight we enjoyed a little outdoor time - Ben mowed, then we grilled Maxwell's chicken kabobs; a hot dog and scalloped potatoes for Allie. The weather was beautiful so princess Al ate outside at her picnic table.

Allie is in her first wedding for our close family friend and sitter, Anna, next month. I got her dress in today (minus the sash, it should arrive in two weeks) and thought it would be a good idea to let her try it on...wrong idea. She threw a massive fit when it was time to take it off. She twirled around, said "Cinderella" 8,000 times, vacuumed, ran laps around the house - I could barely get a picture of her because she would not sit still. I think she's going to enjoy being a flower girl!

A Bomb Threat?

Seriously?  WHO in their right mind calls in a bomb threat to a university?  What is wrong with people?

I was on the I-10 bridge coming back to BR from Port Allen around 11:30 am when I received a text from LSU stating a bomb threat was called in to the school.  Immediately I called Ben to make sure he was not only ok, but see if he received the text.  I guess he thought I was calling about Allie so in a very rushed voice he said "I am going to get Allie, I'll call you shortly."  Then it dawned on me, holy crap, I have a child, my baby, my sweet girl, also on LSU's campus (can you say pregnancy brain?).

At that point, your view as a mother changes - I took off going 90 mph, determined I would get there before Ben due to traffic on campus.

When I got to the Child Care Center, it was amazing how calm it was.  The kids were outside under the awning, it was pouring down rain, the teachers were on their cell phones calling parents.  Life at that minute becomes real when you look over and see your beautiful, blue-eyed, blonde-headed daughter, decked out in her pink and white seersucker palm tree and pig smocked capri outfit, sitting there against the wall without a care in the world.  Why do our children have to go through situations like this?  I realize it is life, but just like my mom - good ole' Kimbo - use to say, "you can mess with  me, but don't mess with my kids."  This saying could not ring truer for me today.

As I sit in a doctor's waiting room (thanks for the free wi-fi!), so many things cross my mind, but the most important factor is that my family is safe.

UPATED Pics of Allie's Room

I finally framed and hung the French animal pictures in Allie's big girl room tonight. The pictures I posted below are off color and don't look all that great because the lighting is bad (dark outside) and my camera phone isn't so clear.

I love these!

A Busy Saturday Already!

It's only 12:20 pm and we've already had a busy day!

Last night was the ribbon cutting ceremony for the westside stadium renovation at LSU.  This is a project our Ben Ross has worked tirelessly on.  I do not know all the specifics but I will say - I am one proud wife.  The project added 6 "formal" gates to the westside of the stadium, a champion's plaza and numerous memory walls honoring former players.  Ben raised the funds for 4 of the 6 gates - and the coolest part to it all is that the families he got involved are like family to us.  From the Sample's to the Frierson's to the Culotta's to the Dupree's - we are so lucky that Ben has such an amazing working relationship that spills over to our family...we are truly blessed.

Going back to the project - Ben was instrumental in making it all happen, and I truly do not think I tell him how proud I am of him enough.  To our friends, Ben is a silly guy, a great dad, an amazing friend, but he doesn't come across as actually being the "business" type.  Heck, sometimes I forget how high of a position he is actually in at TAF simply because I know him as a husband, a father, a best friend, etc.  There wasn't a prouder spouse in the audience last night as me - I recognize all the accomplishments he has made and continue to support his continued success.

Allie stayed with Anna and Jared, two of her favorite people, last night.  When she woke up this morning we got ready and had breakfast with Ben at McDonald's before he had to go to work.  We had a birthday party for Lola Eyre at 10 am at Leeward Park, but before the birthday we went and bought her a gift and of course Allie had to get a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse video - she LOVES Mickey and Minnie right now.

Allie had a great time with all her friends at the party.  Of course the cupcakes were the real "hit!"

Impressive or sad???

I've got a long way to go to already look like this...

Kids Say (and Do!) the Darndest Things

Tonight after bath Allie and Ben were in the living room / kitchen and I was in the back doing laundry when I heard Ben yell for me. When I got to the front Ben pointed to the ground, telling Allie "no no" repeatedly. I look down and what do I see but a huge puddle of pee - she literally peed while drawing on her easel. As a parent you wonder, where in the hell did she get this idea? Do you make them clean it up (as an embarrassment tactic)?

To avoid any further mess I cleaned it up, explained to her that when she "feels like she needs to tee-tee she needs to tell us so she can..." and she immediately chimed in "Elmo!" (referring to her potty). The kid gets this concept, I think she just lost her mind for a second...which happens a lot here lately...

Hammy & Oooh-Rob's New Digs

Ben's parents bought a house in BR, roughly 6 blocks from us (for LSU games and retirement one day) so we hung out with them quite a bit this weekend.

The house has an adorable treehouse / slide / swing and Allie is obsessed with it.

On Saturday, our cousins Ross, Angie, Aaron and Carson came to town - think Allie likes them? She has such a blast with them!

New dollhouse

Several weeks ago we went and looked at a house in BR with Ben's parents and Allie found a dollhouse that belonged to one of the kids in the house...we had to pry her away from it when we left.  I recently asked her if she liked dollhouses and her eyes lit up, she talks about them daily.  SO, this morning while Ben mowed we loaded up and went to Toys 'r Us to buy her first dollhouse.

Popsicle Sunday

After all the family left Sunday we went outside to play and enjoy a popsicle.

"Allie, don't laugh..."

...and in true Allie fashion she went into a full blown fit, for no apparent reason.

They say the darndest things

This morning while I was getting ready Allie kept putting a little barrette (hair clip) in her mouth, then she would look at me to see what I would do.  After tell her it didn't go in her mouth but in her hair at least 30 times, this was our final conversation:

Me:  "Allie, honey if you swallow that it's going to hurt and we will have to go see Dr. Franz."

Allie (without skipping a beat, in a loud excited voice):  "Mrs. Pat mommy - sucker!"

Mrs. Pat is the receptionist at our pediatrician's office and is a total sweetheart.  She greets not only the parent but the child, gives them stickers upon check-in, and follows up the visit as we exit the door with a purple, green, orange or red sucker.  I am glad to know Allie loves her so much, LOL.  I guess it's a good thing she's not scared of the doctor?

1, 2, 3 GO...cheese!

Oh this kid cracks me up.  Pardon the "nakedness" - she just got out of her bath.

New bambino!

When I was pregnant with Allie I was fairly vocal on the whole process through Blogger...not only do I have a fraction of the time this go around (keeping up with a 2-year-old is exhausting) but many of my friends so not have children yet so I do not want to scare them out of this amazing process...I will spare the gory details.  :)

The highlights of this pregnancy:

Due date:  February 3
Current progression:  18 weeks today
Gender:  No clue, won't know until Dr. Gautreau holds "it" up and says "it's a _____!"
Names:  Robert Cole (call him Cole) for a boy; Reagan Cole for a girl

That's about it as far as the "fun" details go.  I feel great, get a slight burst of new energy each day and have gained 11 lbs. total so far.  We go for the 20 week ultrasound a week from Monday so fingers crossed the anatomy scan goes well.

BIG Girl Room

So yes, I have probably lost my mind, BUT you have to keep in mind that the last thing I want to do is buy another crib for Ross #2.  I started putting my thoughts together on exactly what I wanted to do in Allie's "big girl" room several months ago and I could not be happier with the results.  I do have some things to finish, but I would say it is roughly 90% done.

...now keep in mind, she's not actually sleeping in this room or bed yet (I'm not quite prepared) but hopefully by Christmas she will make the transition.

New chandelier from Restoration Hardware Baby & Kids, curtains are from Pottery Barn, hutch is from Hobby Lobby

Bedding is from Restoration Hardware Baby & Kids - I love how they incorporate not only the soft tones, but the mixture of fabrics (duvet and sham are linen, sheets are cotton and accent pillow is quilted).  Bed is from Ben's mom's antique shop (I painted it Restoration Hardware's French Gray color).  Allie has a big gray owl that normally lays on the accent pillow and looks adorable because it brings out the gray stripes in the sheets...God only knows where he is!

Close-up picture of linens

I bought this nightstand at a furniture in the raw place here in Baton Rouge, painted it French Gray and added new hardware

Allie's "going home" outfit mom made for her.  Dad had it professionally framed for her nursery and I could not let it rot in a closet.  One day this kiddo will know all about "Gamma Kim" (as she calls her) and just how big of a heart she had for her unborn granddaughter.  I hung this above her nightstand so she sees it every morning when turning on her lamp, and each night when turning it off.

My plan is to put an arrangement of pictures of Allie in various sized scatter frames around the cross...

I ordered the coolest pictures off Etsy for this wall.  Each picture (there are 3) is of a different animal - cat, dog and bunny.  They are situated on what's called a blackboard background and have French wording.  I should have them early this week (they were delayed due to Hurricane Isaac).

LOVE this chandelier

These candy jars are from Pottery Barn Kids and were actually used in her nursery.  At the time, I traveled 8-9 nights per month so I would set out Allie's clothes for school before departing and sort them by day.  I need to go back to this, but incorporate my "independent thinker" to perhaps make getting ready in the morning easier.

My cousin Shannon made this puppy dog for Allie and she loves it.  It never actually stays on this chair because she normally drags it around.
