Sleepy Allie

I've blogged many of times about how tired AP is after school.  Without fail, she passes out in the car on the way home and snoozes at least an hour in her carrier on the island.  Today, I took in her diaper bag, checked the mail (while she was in the car)...this was a picture I took from the window.

Yes, I'm high maintenance

Allie decided over Thanksgiving that she didn't want to be held while she ate so now she either lays on the ground or sits in her bouncer - of course while holding the bottle - to eat.  WOW...

I LOVE electronics!

I love when I answer my work phone and slobber drools off...nice.

Yes, I'm talented

Chillin' on the couch watching The Backyardigans

9 pm to 7 am!

Allie "sleeping all night" varies...some nights she wakes up at 2:30 am and we put her in bed with us, other times she wakes up at 5 am and we are able to soothe her back to sleep with Wub...sometimes she decides to sleep ALL night in her bed....like last night!

The alarm went off at 7 am and Allie was still snoozing in her bed so we hit "snooze" for 15 minutes.  By 7:15 am she was awake and in the best mood.

In the mornings while I get her clothes situated for the day, I lay her on a pillow in our bed and she watches Nick Jr. while Ben showers.  I took some pictures of our happy girl this morning.

Allie & Roxy in pictures

"Hey Roxy, what's up?"

"I promise I'll be nice..."

"Hold still Roxy!"

Roxy: "Mom, what the hell is going on?"

Roxy: "She's going for the ear mom!"

"Ok Roxy, I'll be gentle"

Roxy:  "If you're not I'll pin your little baby hand to the ground."

"Ok Roxy, let's make up...I'm sorry."

Roxy:  "Don't touch me."

Allie and Roxy

All I have to say is ROXY ROSS IS A SAINT!

Over the weekend Allie realized she can reach out and actually "touch" (or "grab!") the dogs. Tonight, Ben was at basketball practice and Allie and I were hanging out at her playland. Roxy walked by and Allie immediately started laughing and "talking" to her so I called her to the rug which is a big no-no, normally.

The video was taken before the pictures...enjoy!

Watch out Blogger!

I just downloaded the Blogger app on my phone so I can blog anywhere! WooHoo!

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was - using my normal word - "bittersweet" this year. We had my family lunch at noon followed by a trip to Shreveport to see Ben's family at 3.

My mom's brother, Steve, and his family normally do not celebrate holidays with us (they go to Houston with his wife's family) but they decided to stay in town this year which was great. Everyone was of course excited to see Allie Parker so she took some of the sappiness out of lunch. Uncle Steve said the blessing and of course there wasn't a dry face in the room, then we ate. Allie enjoyed kicking around in the living room and soaked up all the attention she received from her aunts, uncles and cousins...and of course Papa B and Meme and Pepaw!

After lunch we headed to Shreveport to see Ben's family. Nanny was so excited to see Allie but given my little AP girl doesn't like to sit still her time on nanny's lap was cut short. Regardless they both enjoyed seeing one another.

Thanksgiving night Robert and Pam took the baby home and Ben and I went and visited with dad and watched football.

Like I mentioned above our first holiday without mom was bittersweet. Mom not being here just makes things so odd - it's like our leader has left us, and I've finally understood that the leader isn't coming back. I blogged last week about waiting for her to come through the back door from work and the same thoughts were going through my head today as we were packing up to leave town. "Mom will be here soon to tell us bye" almost left my mouth, no kidding. So maybe I've just made myself realize I'm truly not believing she really is gone. I don't know. I am extremely thankful for the 27 years and 10 months I was able to spend with the world's greatest mother who wanted nothing but the absolute best for me, hands down.

One thing I do know is just how hectic life is trying to see everyone with a baby. Naps are a must for Allie and unfortunately she didn't get many "quality" ones in this week!

What's up with my child?

Traveling with a 5-month-old has proved to be a little challenging this trip!  While I am constantly on the go while in Marshall - lunch with dad in Jefferson, visiting Mama and Papa, trips to the store - Allie has proven that the little naps she use to take in the car are now few and far between...this little girl needs a crib, blanket, bottle and Wub!  On top of the "being out of sorts" she is teething so I am sure she's miserable from that.

Allie loves to stay at Papa B's because he walks the dogs every night.  Tuesday she walked 1 mile with me in the morning, and another 2 1/2 with dad and me in the evening (each dog gets 1/2 mile).

My little boo is about a week away from being able to sit up by herself (without my help to make sure she doesn't fall over and bump her head) and she's tired of laying on her back to play.  I made a last minute stop by Wal-Mart this morning and picked up a walker.  Of course, she's about 1 inch too short, but she still enjoyed it!

FINALLY an afternoon nap Tuesday!

Hangin' with the fam

Ben, Allie and I made the trek to Marshall Monday afternoon once Ben returned from duck hunting in Lake Charles.  I was so ready to get home and see my dad.

I drove and let Ben and Allie snooze in the back which was rather peaceful.  The thoughts that bounce through your head on a 4 1/2 hour quiet and dark car ride are often interesting.  After the sun went down, the song "All In" by Lifehouse (I think?) came on and I started to cry.  This is our first holiday without mom so I started thinking about the things that would be different - no cornbread dressing, no running to Wal-Mart at the last minute while mom stresses out about all the cooking she has to do, no shopping at Pottery Tent for fun Christmas items, no late nights on the back deck think tank listening to mom fill me in on the last 6 months of politics...

Mom was a character and could often times make life so difficult.  I miss her so very much and as I sit here and write this I am staring at the back door waiting for her to walk in from work.  She is still everywhere in the house from her decorations in the living room to her clothes and makeup in the same spot she left them the morning of May 12th.  I am so proud of the way my dad has kept up the house and continues to keep her memory alive here with all the pictures.

Since mom's death dad keeps a funeral program with her beautiful picture on the kitchen island and added Allie's newborn announcement.  Such a "bittersweet" reminder that while one life has been taken, another little sunshine is in our presence.

Out of control baby!

AP was out of control today. She was either tired, hungry or just simply not happy. I think a lot of her "mood" was due to teething but I've never seen her this way.

After 3 hour-long naps, I finally figured out I just couldn't please her so we went for a stroll around the neighborhood...and the house.  Yes, it's amazing what you will do to make your child happy.

At dinner she devoured a package of green beans and applesauce...but don't try and trick her with green beans or applesauce combined with oatmeal. She doesn't think it's funny in the least!

Happy Birthday SLOANE!

One of my best friends and her husband had their little girl today - Finley "Sloane" Wolfe. 7 lbs. 2 oz. She's a doll and I cannot wait to meet her!

"No, no, no!"

Oh how I just love Moose!

I swear, this song gets stuck in my head everytime I hear it. Nick Jr. is simply precious!

"it's no wonder it's Autumn I adore!"

Allie's new "noises"

My favorite time of the day

Our little nightly routine includes:  a warm bath where everything in the bathroom ALSO gets a bath due to my little mermaid splashing so much, a 6 ounce bottle, 3-4 minutes of rocking, then bedtime.

At night I cuddle Allie in a fleece blanket (her room is the coldest in the house) and she loves it.  Eating basically comatoses her, but the rocking does the final trick.  Before I know it I look down and Wubbie has completely fallen out of her mouth.  When I lay her down she adjusts slightly to get comfortable then she is O-U-T.  Poor baby...I mean OUT!

Last night she slept in her bed, without waking up from 8 pm to 5 am.  She got in bed with us at 5 and slept until 6:45 am.  We need to start working on getting her to sleep ALL night in her bed, but to be honest, I enjoy her snoozing with us.  **tear**  Perhaps after Thanksgiving we will attempt to keep her in her bed...

Turning over a new leaf...

Allie has decided she likes to eat now...she DEVOURS bottles and loves spoonfeading.  My how the times have changed!

Mommy goes to LA

I had to go to Los Angeles Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights for work.  Luckily I was able to fly standby on my way back and get home 4 hours early to see AP and put her to bed.  It's amazing how much you can miss your child when away.  Here are some pictures from tonight.

She can touch and bounce now!

iPhone 4

So the technology now-a-days is unbelievable.  When I was Allie's age I think I was doing good to have a book that talked.  Now, she has cool and expensive electronics to play with like my Blackberry for work, iPhone, iPod, camera, etc.

Allie loves to look at herself in the mirror, but she hasn't quite figured out the fact that you can reverse the picture on my iPhone...she loves it.  Check out the eyes...haha!

LSU Tiny Tiger Fest

If you know me, you've heard me rant and rave about how awesome Allie's baby school is.  She is one lucky little girl to go to LSU.

To prepare for the homecoming game last week, LSU held "Tiny Tiger Fest" which entailed a small parade, snacks and fun for the older kiddos and appearances by the LSU cheerleaders and.........

MIKE THE TIGER!

"Come on Mike, let me just grab ONE whisker...I promise it won't hurt, I do it to moms hair all the time!"

The cheerleaders were so sweet.  I was completely shocked that they would actually want to hold the babies but they definitely took charge and grabbed her!

Of course she had to have a sign for her stroller for the p-rade!

Sleepy girl merely tolerating the long, but short stroll around the parking lot

Allie and dad

...and did I mention Mrs. Tiffany (Brady's mom) and I decorated the Panda classroom door so cute that we won 1st place?  Yes, I am even a little competitive when it comes to my 5-month-olds door at school!

"This tastes awesome, mom!"

Tonight was Allie's 11th night of spoon feeding and I am thrilled that she's finally getting the hang of it.  Although she still tries to lick the spoon because she doesn't quite know what to do with her tongue yet, she at least opens her mouth for me to deliver the goods.  We also broke out her new highchair tonight which she was enamoured by!

Taking it in...

"Man that's some good stuff!"

Savoring every moment

All done!  This is her new face...no idea where she got it.

Who would have thunk?

For friends and family that have witnessed, heard me gripe, seen me cry, etc. about the AWFUL experience of bottle feeding Allie the past 2 months...I have FINALLY found the solution...new bottles.

For no kidding - 2 months - anytime I, Ben, Ms. Annie or Ms. Crystal at school, Pammy, Meme...whoever - went to feed her, she would act like the bottle was going to chop her head off.  LITERALLY.  She would arch her back, scream and kick.  To get her to actually take the bottle, we would have to give her Wubbie (pacifier), then slowly move it out of the way, replacing it with the bottle.  It was one hell of a process.  A typical feeding should take no more than 10 minutes...for Allie it was more like 25-30.  I cannot explain just how frustrating it was.

Well, Sunday I decided to pull out the Playtex Drop-ins I originally registered for and try them.  No kidding, Allie looked at the nipple, fussed for 2 seconds then DEVOURED the bottle.  With the Dr. Brown's I was only able to get her to eat 4 1/2 ounces out of 5...her 6:30 am bottle had 7 ounces!  It was like a little slice of heaven had fallen in my lap.  Of course, I only have 3 of the 8+ ouncers so I will make a Wal-Mart run this evening.

I hope and pray I have defeated the "fear of the bottle" - fingers crossed for a positive day at school and evening at home!
